The Nazar – The Ancient Eye of Protection
This artwork pays homage to the Nazar, an enduring symbol of protection against negative energies and malevolent gazes. Steeped in the rich tapestry of Turkish culture, the Nazar bead draws in harmful stares, shielding its bearer from unseen forces.
With origins tracing back to Ancient Egypt, the eye-shaped Nazar is believed to embody the Eye of Horus — the falcon-headed deity whose gaze represents both the sun and the moon. As a spiritual talisman, the Nazar weaves together myth and tradition, standing as a testament to humanity’s eternal quest for safety and balance.
Throughout history, blue stones — believed to absorb negative energy — have adorned homes, garments, and sacred spaces. The eye, often seen as a portal to the soul and a transmitter of both benevolent and malevolent intentions, lies at the heart of this protective amulet’s power.
This piece invites viewers to explore the intersection of faith, folklore, and symbolism in the universal human desire to ward off darkness and preserve light.
