Pelagia Jellyfish - Original Art Print | Poster | Canvas
From the Marine Life Collection – The Phantom of the Mediterranean
This captivating piece from our Marine Life Collection spotlights the Pelagia noctiluca, also known as the Mauve Stinger one of the most notorious jellyfish species haunting the Mediterranean. Known for its vibrant hues and delicate bioluminescence, this ethereal creature has, at times, turned idyllic beaches into ghost towns, as seen during the mass bloom that overwhelmed Italy’s shores in the summer of 1999.
While the Mauve Stinger prefers the deep waters and open oceans, it is a wanderer by nature. Driven by ocean currents, it can thrive in a wide range of environments from the dark depths to temperate coastal habitats and even near the seafloor.
A symbol of nature’s fragile beauty and unpredictable force, this jellyfish is both a marvel and a quiet reminder of the ocean’s mysteries.
